Another Day Dawns

As if I wasn't sleep-deprived enough, I was awake with the sparrows at 5:49am. This is odd for me when you also consider that I didn't actually fall asleep until after 1am, thanks (in part) to my next-door-neighbour who was holding some kind of dance party in her apartment until the wee hours of the morning. Some of the music I didn't mind (and I could hear it all very clearly in my bedroom) but the techno remix of "She's Like The Wind" was a bit strange...

To be honest, I didn't mind the music and chatter (except when it was competing with my Elvis and BeeGees CDs earlier), it made me feel less like I was living in a tomb and I liked knowing there were a few people awake nearby, just in case someone decided to break in to my apartment and steal all my china, or the place went up in flames etc. All of a sudden, why I'm not sleeping (dance party aside) becomes obvious!

Anyway, because I woke up at 5:49, I decided to stay up and I had my coffee on the balcony and watched the sun rise again. The photos really don't do it justice. Hopefully tonight I'll nod off without any trouble and get back in to my routine - I've only got a week before I have to go back to work.

The earliest pictures, when it was still mostly dark came out blurry which is funny because I thought it was my vision that was blurry and I couldn't see the camera screen clearly...In some of the photos (the last in particular), you might be able to make out Centrepoint Tower and a few of the City buildings. At night when the view is all sparkling with lights, it's really beautiful.

What A Beautiful Morning

Well, most things have been done. I'm all moved in and getting settled, I still have a few things to do and quite a lot to take over and organise. I am having a lot of trouble sleeping, because there are different sounds to get used to - creaks and drips and what-have-you but I think I'm getting better. It only took me about an hour to fall asleep last night (and I only woke up once) as opposed to the four hours it took me on Monday night and the countless times I woke up.

My sister and I originally planned on going into town for the Dawn Service yesterday (ANZAC Day) but then we scratched that idea because my sister has been sick this week, so we thought we might go in for the march instead...we didn't end up doing either but we did manage to go and watch the game between the Dragons & the Roosters and I was so pleased the Dragons won. I despise the Roosters and I couldn't think of anything worse than going in to watch them win but, as luck would have it, they were soundly thrashed and I was delighted! I did have a feeling the Dragons would win and I'm happy I got to see it all live.

I keep the blinds in my bedroom open at night (otherwise it's pitch black) and this morning, I woke up to a beautiful sunrise:

Sunrise at 6am It's the first time I've seen the sunrise because I have been sleeping in (thanks to not falling asleep until just before the sun rises!) and it really made me feel very happy this morning.

I haven't got my phone or internet connected yet, not until the 1st of May (Thursday) but once that's done I'll be able to update more frequently.

As far as crocheting goes, I haven't done any for ages - all my yarn and hooks are still here and my patterns are all over there but I'm going to try and get them moved over the next few days and then I have a few projects in mind.

One More Night

Well, yesterday was my final inspection of the apartment - it was only the second time I've seen the place, so I was pretty keen to get in there and have a proper look around. Some things I weren't sure of I confirmed yesterday - there are drawers and shelves in the wardrobes, the bathroom does have a cabinet (I couldn't remember), there is an outlet for the phone in the spare room (I don't know why there's only one outlet and it's in there but never mind, as long as I have one) and other things like that.

As soon as I get the keys (hopefully tomorrow but maybe Tuesday), I'll go in and do some cleaning - it doesn't need much, the tenant left it in good shape. I'll start moving all my stuff in after that. I did some last-minute shopping yesterday (not again!) and bought an outdoor setting for the balcony, two lamps for the bedroom, some cushions for the lounge, the rug I wanted which my sister very kindly gave me the money for as a birthday gift. I paid off my fridge and microwave and bought a toaster as well and the fridge is due for delivery on Saturday. I paid the balance off my furniture, too, and that's coming on Saturday as well. I still have to call Optus and work out the phone / internet reconnection and also reconnect the electricity in my name - although it appears to be still connected.

I'm off work for two weeks from the 21st so that should give me enough time to get sorted without it being too stressful with work as well.

I must've spent far too much time on my feet yesterday, running around because I woke up this morning in agony from I am going to call sciatica. Because I was tired, as well, I slept heavily and probably didn't move much which didn't help. I am looking forward to my new bed and mattress, I hope it improves all these aches and pains.

So I think I have everything I need, at least in the short-term, I am sure I will find I need things I have forgotten about in the future but for now I am well set up. The real fun will be trying to find a place for everything and unpacking all my haphazardly stored items, I know I've got bathroom stuff in the boxes I've labelled "Kitchen" and things like that but I can't see it being too much of a problem - annoying but nothing major...

And...after a very big storm, it appears I've fried my desktop PC but it was probably inevitable, it was a Very Old Computer - at least 90 in computer years. Just as well I have my trusty laptop to play with.

My Place

I have been busy packing and trying to sort out my finances, it's been a stressful few months but fun, as well. I have almost out-shopped myself, which is actually a lot harder than it sounds but there are still so many things I need...I just think it will be easier to buy as much as I can before I move while I haven't got a mortgage to worry about. A lot of what I am buying falls in to the "want and can justify but don't really need" category.

Every time I start to think of what I haven't got yet and what I will need, I end up thinking of a hundred new things. It's really quite annoying.

The Block

This is the outside of the building, it's fairly old - been around for a while, but it's a nice block. Eight units in total, mine is the top right as you look at the building.

The Kitchen

This is the kitchen (obviously), it's been renovated and I quite like it, it's only small but for one or two people I think it's fine. More often than not, there'll only be me in it so it's more than adequate. My appliances are all silver (stainless steel) - fridge, microwave, kettle etc.

Lounge Room

This is the view looking in from near the front door, it's not a huge space and all the furniture belongs to the tenant who was living there, my furniture is going to be different, of course, but my lounge is also dark brown. I think it suits the floors nicely. I hate the metal venetians! When I can save a bit of money, I'd like to get wooden venetians but it's not an urgent purchase. You can see a bit of the bathroom peeking through, it's pink. When I move in, I'll get a photo of the bathroom...

Different Angle

This is looking back to the kitchen from near the balcony door, you can see the other bedroom (spare room / study) to the left of the bathroom. The master bedroom is on the right:

Master Bedroom

...and I still hate those blinds! There are built-ins in both bedrooms, they're mirrored (I am not crazy about mirrored wardrobes but I can live with them). The one in here is on the opposite wall to the window, it's not too shabby a room, quite spacious. The other bedroom is smaller but still a decent size.

Anyway, as of Monday 14th April, it's mine and I am off work from the 21st to move so we'll see how I go.
